Pray As You Can, Not As You Can’t

For years, I’ve had this voice in my head telling me how I “should” pray. A spirituality professor of mine used to call this “shoulding all over yourself.” I’ve been telling myself I’m an imposter because I don’t pray enough, that I am no good as follower of Christ because I spend no time with him. This was a lie, and it wasn’t.

Enjoying a cozy Sunday morning, sipping coffee and reviewing yesterday’s Fiat Conference. So much to pray over in the coming weeks, but the one thing that stands out is deepening my relationship with Mary. The month of the Rosary seems as good a time as any to start!
I can’t believe this little man is a year old already! Happy birthday to the boys who loves bananas so much he eats the peels, who starts dancing before the music even plays when I say “Alexa...” Your delight in life radiates joy and laughter to the rest of us. It was a rough road to get you here, but we both made it and here we are one year later. You are my joy, baby boy.
The Lord's beauty in the smallest things speaks of his great attention to detail. How perfectly formed are the wings of the bumble bee, and the sweetness of the flower enveloped in the soft brilliance of the petals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If our great, glorious God takes such pains to paint beauty in the smallest of things, how much greater is the work he doing in my soul? What an invitation, that the God of the universe wants to labor in me! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ God, my soul is a humble gift. And yet I know what you do with humble gifts, with loaves and fishes, with bread and wine. Take all of me, Lord, and do what you will. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Happy feast day to the woman who radiated the joy and peace of Christ and never let the darkness overshadow it. St. Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #stteresaofcalcutta #motherteresa #catholiclife #lampandlight #womenlivingwell #proverbs31 #catholicmom #dailyprayer #philotheafound #thecatholicwoman #wellwateredwoman #seekhimfirst #catholicmom #catholicsahm #catholicmomlife #mammamary #blessedisshe #Catholicsocialteaching #millenialcatholic #catholicfeminist #socialjustice #solidarity #kinship #humandignity #commongood #bodyofChrist #catholicworker #simpleliving #dailyprayer #bissisterhood
Love consists in moments. The path to love is not in the accumulation of these moments, but in learning to enter ever more deeply the moments we have. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart." - Luke 2:19⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Few things are needed--or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." - Luke 10:42⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." - Matthew 6:21 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Beauty is never lost. Even the bleakest of surroundings cannot mar its loveliness. In fact, isn't it the opposite? Light is more striking in the face of darkness, and acts of kindness, however small, become an oasis in an unforgiving desert. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
